Charlotte County Time Bank

Every hour shared builds a stronger, more connected commnunity

Timebanking is a community-based system where people exchange services using time instead of money. For every hour of help given, participants earn a time credit to spend on receiving help in return. Everyone has something to offer, and all contributions are valued equally. We're bringing timebanking to St. Stephen, New Brunswick, to strengthen community ties and support one another. Join us in building a more connected and supportive community!

An hour in return for every hour given

Timebanking is a system that enables people in communities to help one another using time, not money. For every hour of help given—such as mowing a lawn or shopping—participants earn a time credit, which they can later use to receive help from others, like learning a new skill or getting assistance with a task.

Everyone's time is valued equally

We believe that every person is valuable and has something to offer—and timebanking is a simple way to allow everyone to do that. Timebanking offers a solution. It shows us how to participate. It gives us something to do. It doesn’t discriminate by age, ability, social location, or education and skill. The real wealth of our society is its people.

Everyone's skill are useful and everyone feels valued

Timebanking works for everyone—individuals, organisations and society as a whole. People arrange to give time when it suits them, offering skills they enjoy using. It's a two-way process of giving time and receiving time—and everybody has skills they can offer.

Charlotte County Time Bank is a non-profit that enables individuals and organizations to exchange services and skills using time as currency. Our values are:

  • People are assets: The real wealth of our society is its people. We believe that every person is valuable and has something to offer other people in the community.
  • Redefining work: Time banks are helping to define "work" by making it more inclusive. It is easier to participate equally in an economy where the currency is time — not money.
  • Reciprocity: We believe the impulse to give back is universal. Timebanking allows people to be givers as well as receivers. At a time bank, "you need me" becomes "we need each other."
  • Social Capital: Time banking builds mutual social and practical support networks in communities, strengthening social capital and encouraging collaboration between community organizations and public services.
  • Respect: Time banks give people respect and recognize the value of everyone's contribution by giving them the benefit of someone else's time in return.
